@2 years ago with 2 notesThis is a clear injustice. Charges haven’t been pressed against people who’ve enrolled their kids under false pretenses into Norwalk’s school system prior to this incident. Maybe it’s the fact that she’s not only poor, but black, that makes the difference between a slap on the wrist and full-on criminal charges. How can we live in a world where someone who lives in poverty is charged with larceny (a crime involving the wrongful acquisition of the personal property of another person) for sending their child to a good school system with broader opportunities than a low-income district? Apparently a good education only belongs to those who can afford it…

A sold out crowd watched Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder perform a heartfelt tribute to late E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons on Saturday night at Hartford’s Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts. According to The Courant’s Eric Danton, Vedder was unaware that Clemons had succumbed to complications from a stroke earlier in the day and was informed of his passing onstage after offering Clemons words of support.

Vedder reportedly “paused, closed his eyes and put his hand over his face, seeming to squeeze his temples.” Following the brief display of emotion, Vedder soldiered on with an emotional rendition of his hit “Better Man” in honor of the fallen musician. Vedder, currently touring in support of his March 31 release Ukulele Songs, impressed fans with an eclectic two-hour set featuring stripped-down tracks from his latest effort and a host of classic Pearl Jam hits.
